Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Click Here for some cool Frankenstein quotes !

"My father did not hesitate, and immediately went to Italy that he might accompany the little Elizabeth to her future home"(Shelley p.19). I believe this is an important part of the book because it symbolized the care of their family. Through-out the book there were statements made about how close the family is. The first few pages were about the brother R.Walton, keeping in touch with the family. This caught my attention because most people in the society are not as close like this anymore. Reasons why I say this is because back in the 80's or 90's, most families did not have a television in the kids room. This cause the kids to come out their rooms and watch television with the family, and this brought them together. Now that there are televisions in every room of the house this causes the family to stick to themselves and not communicate with other members of the family. In another part of the book Walton talks about gaining a friend. I believe he wants someone to embark on his journey with, and cherish the moments because his family isn't there to enjoy it with him. And like most people in the society he needs someone to uplift his spirits and keep him going. Family is the strongest thing in the society today. Not enough money in the world can buy someone a good friend or the real love of a person, or family. Something that I recognized in the book is that you have to hold on tight to the people in your life. When William died I believed he felt bad because out of all that times he could seen the smiles on everyone's faces and embraced the moments with William, Walton only happened to make it to the funeral, which was bad timing. I believe this contributes to the meaning of the novel because in general it was about family, and stay close to those people because the other people in the society can careless.

Field of Skulls
In the poem "Field of Skulls" by Mary Karr, the author discusses someone to be suicidal. As I read the poem the first time I had almost no understanding about what was going on, but reading it a second time made me understand. In this poem I believe that the person is suicidal. The tone of the story is depressing and serious. Throughout the poem the author points out different key points of being miserable. This person longs to die because of the depression, and the skulls that stare envy life. The skulls make a big representation in the poem towards the person it’s addressing because they have something to do with the past. I believe the author addresses the audience only because he uses the word you throughout the poem. In different areas is the poem there are some key points that show someone is probably unhappy.
In the poem I came to the understanding that the person the author is addressing is depressed or suicidal. When the author states, "The window you've picked is a black postage stamp you spend hours at"(Karr line 3-4). I believe that this is a state of depression, and if not, it might mean someone is stressed and have been for a while.  One thing that Karr mentions is that the person is drinking on some alcohol after the I Love Lucy show. The person that’s watching this show was trying to get some laughs because they are upset. I made this inference because I Love Lucy is a comedy show, and normally when someone is upset they would try to do something to lift there sprits.
When Karr states, "Stare hard enough at the fabric of night"(Karr 1). By the author saying the fabric of night I think of a starless night sky, like a blanket of night. In stanza two when the author says, "Like your eyes have force"(Karr line 7). This means the person is focused on his or her depression. Behind the vision, and thoughts, the person concentrates on the cause of depression. The field of skulls is the cause of depression. Field of skulls is symbolic for a loved one, a family member, or people that have died in his life. "They're plain once you think to look." I think the author is referring to the skulls, and once he gets past the depression the person realizes that there’s nothing really special about the skulls.
In stanza three i believe that the author just basically discuss that a criminal could be anyone. "Roam your very block and even history lists"(Karr line 14). It could be your next door neighbor or even a mail man. He also compares most of these everyday people to Hitler or Uncle Tom. In stanza four I assume the fact that people were after him, or maybe even watching him. When the author says, "The bad news piped steady from your head"(Karr line 23). When Karr says this i believe maybe someone was shot and all you see is nothing but darkness. In stanza five I believe that person should be dead, because the skulls envy when looking at him. Most of stanza five is about skulls representing death, or the afterlife is trying to reach out to the reader.
In most cases I believe the guy is suicidal and maybe hoping someone to kill him. In some parts of the poem I believe that the skulls are also jealous of what that someone has, and that’s life. Overall i believe this essay was more of a suicide type of message. I don’t think there was a rhyming scheme in the poem. I believe that the relationship between the person and others was more of a scarce relation, because the author made it seems as if someone was out to hurt someone, so always keep a guard up. The person is more of fear of everyone else. I really like this poem because it is very interesting and I can make a lot of inferences about it.

Field of Skulls

Field of Skulls by Mary Karr
In the poem "Field of Skulls" by Mary Karr I felt that this poem was very intriguing. As i read the poem the first time I had almost no understanding about what was going on, but reading it a second time made me understand. In this poem I believe that the author is suicidal. Throughout the poem the author points out different key points of either being depressed and having skulls stare. I believe the author addresses the audience only because he uses the word you often. In stanza one is where I believe the author states some things about the reader being depressed.
When the author states, "The window you've picked is a black postage stamp you spend hours at"(Karr 3, 4). I believe that this is a state of depression and if not, that it means someone is stressed, and have been for a while. When the author brings up the fabric of night I think of a starless night sky, like a blanket of night. Moving on to stanza two the author says, "Like your eyes have force"(Karr 7). I believe this is when the person is focused on depression. I think behind this depression the person finds what he is depressed about. Another thing that’s in the stanza is that the author discusses how there are a field of skulls and I think this is symbolic for a loved one, a family, or people that have died in his life. "They're plain once you think to look." When the author says they're he is referring to the skulls, and I believe once he gets past the depression the person realizes that there’s nothing really special about the skulls.

Summarizing and Analysis

Check out Analyzing vs. Summarizing in the English Writing Guide.

When addressing a summary it is normally based on two things,  a short explanation, and main points on the events that occur in the story. When summarizing something one thing not to do is state feelings or opinions about the story. Summarizing events in a story does not involve thoughts. After reading a story and summarizing it the reader is just suppose to make it easier for people who have not read the story yet, and summarize it in a few words. Now analysis of a story or anything someone reads would be different, because the reader states a opinion, and something argumentative. One example of a summary would be: In the story the Three Little Pigs the pigs whose mom couldn't provide for them sent them out to seek their own fortune. All three pigs built their own individual houses, the first  out of stick, the second out of straw, and the third out of brick. There was a big bad wolf going around and huffing and puffing and blew both the first and second pig's house down, and ate them all up. Once the wolf got to the third pigs house built out of brick, he wasn't so successful. The wolf decided to climb up the chimney, but little did he know the pig had boiling water waiting for the wolf as he came down. And the pig had him for supper. See, that was a summery of the story Three Little Pigs. A analysis would be that in the story the three little pigs, the pigs are represented as people struggling for good fortune and trying to build a stable life, while the wolf, is represented as the economic problems.
